1966 |
Camaro debuts in Sept 1966 as a ’67 model based on a redesigned ’68 Nova platform. Engine options ranged from a 140 (gross) HP straight six up to a 396 CID big block V8 making 375HP. More typical was the new for the Camaro 350 V8. |

1967 |
Firebird comes along in February 1967. Engine offerings ranged from an OHC six making 165 (gross) HP to a 325HP 400 CID V8. |

1969 |
Pontiac Trans Am introduced. GM paid a royalty fee to the SCCA for each Trans Am built through the years. |

1970 |
Second generation models debut as a ’70-1/2 model. Top engine in the Firebird was a 400 CID Ram Air V8 making 345HP. |

Pontiac offers a 455 big block. The largest engine ever offered in the Camaro/Firebird. |

Third generation models debut. This model was delayed by GM infighting over whether to use a FWD or RWD platform. Top engine in the Camaro was a 5.0L making a 165HP. The Firebird got a version making 185HP that came with an automatic only. |

Convertible returns—last available in 1969. |

Pontiac builds 1555 20th anniversary Trans Ams with a turbo V6 borrowed from the Buick Grand National. |
