Major Changes Year-by-Year

 

1989 Introduction

1990 ABS added; new interior and dashboard; drivers side airbag; revised 15" wheels. 

1991 16 inch wheels; one-piece brake rotors introduced in Feb '91; larger
diameter clutch; lighter fiberglass hood on late '91's; rod shifter after 5/18/91; trunk lid spoilers on some cars.

1992 Major body & interior redesign; passenger side airbag. 

1993 Automatic transmission available with the engine stroked to 3.2 liters (more torque, same HP as the 3.0L). Bit softer suspension; rear decklid spoiler;   wheels become unidirectional (left side and right side versions).

1994 Larger front brake rotors; re-tuned suspension; CFC-free air conditioning; liquid-filled motor mounts.

1995 Minor suspension re-tuning; unique back struts for 5-speed.

1996 Major Taurus redesign; 235 hp 3.4 litter V8, 4-speed automatic
transmission only. Performance is comparable to V-6 SHO. 16 x 6.5 in. wheels; better brakes. Valve adjustment and spark plug maintenance interval increased to 100k miles & a timing chain replaces belt so there's no more maintenance. Coil-on-plug ignition; ZF rack & pinion steering system; 150 mph speedometer.

1997 Map pockets added. Mid-year minor decontenting.

1998 The sunroof, Mach sound system, leather seats, keyless entry, and chrome wheels which were formerly part of an option package are now standard. The only option is 6 way power passenger seat. 

1999 Everything is standard, no options. After 11/12/98 no semi-active suspension and no button for the OD override
